118K North Shore Residents Vaccinated As Salem State Site Reopens

SALEM, MA — With nearly 120,000 residents of 10 North Shore communities in the Safe Summer coalition now fully vaccinated the region will get another option for shots starting Tuesday when the Salem State University regional collaborative reopens.

The North Shore Coalition for a Safe Summer is a joint effort from Beverly, Danvers, Gloucester, Hamilton, Marblehead, Nahant, Newburyport, Peabody, Salem and Swampscott to encourage residents to get vaccinated and by doing that help hasten the return to normal across the region.

The communities reported on Monday that combined between them there are 155,000 residents who have received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine and 118,000 residents who are fully vaccinated. That amounts to 60 percent of residents with at least one dose, and 46 percent fully vaccinated.

The next push for vaccinations comes Tuesday with the reopening of the Salem State regional collaborative site, which is a partnership between Beverly, Danvers, Lynn, Marblehead, Nahant, Peabody, Salem, Saugus and Swampscott, will be open two days a per week with a capability of 1,000 vaccinations per week using the Pfizer vaccine.

The clinic will run out of the O'Keefe Center at Salem State. The clinic will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m next week before Thursday hours shift to 2 to 6 p.m. the following week.

Salem officials said as of Monday 35 percent of its residents were fully vaccinated.

Danvers reported on Monday that 49 percent of its residents were fully vaccinated.

Peabody reported 42 percent of its residents have been full vaccinated.

Appointments are strongly recommended for the Salem State site as walk-ins will only be available depending on the availability of the vaccine that day.

Beth Isreal Lahey Health has also begun offering walk-in coronavirus vaccinations at its four clinics in Beverly, Burlington, Cambridge and Plymouth.

The mass vaccination site at the Danvers DoubleTree Hotel is also accepting walk-in coronavirus vaccinations. Gov. Charlie Baker said the Danvers site will slowly ramp down operations over the next six weeks before closing by the end of June.
