SALEM, MA — A municipal relief fund has been activated for the two households displaced in Wednesday night's fire on Broad Street.
Emergency services reports said the fire began in the rear of the building and extended into the floor before Salem fire crews were able to knock it down.
The fire displaced a family with young children and an adult man and his cat.
Those who would like to help the victims recover are encouraged to donate money, so individuals have the most flexibility in rebuilding their lives.
Gift cards in even amounts for groceries, home goods, and personal care products/toiletries are accepted.
One of the people displaced is seeking short-term accommodations for himself and his cat. Those who know of any available are asked to contact jmota@salem.com.
Donations may be made at any Salem Five bank branch or online here.
Donations may also be mailed to: Salem Relief Fund c/o Salem Five, 71 Washington Street, Salem MA, 01970. If donating at a branch or mailing a donation, make the check payable to "Salem Relief Fund."
Donations are tax-deductible. All donated funds will be divided among the victims.
Cash and gift cards may be dropped off at the Mayor’s Office, Salem City Hall, 93 Washington Street, Mondays through Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.
