SALEM, MA — The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem will host "Vivaldi with Symphony by the Sea" in an upcoming event with the North Shore's professional symphony orchestra that includes a talk, museum admission, and a light reception.

The program will focus on Antonio Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and the way composers have used music to reflect the seasons over time. During the Baroque period, many composers created concerto cycles representing the seasons. Vivaldi used four sonnets of his own creation as a starting point for the music of "Four Seasons."

The event includes a 20-minute talk by Maestro Donald Palma. Attendees will then hear an approximately 45-minute performance of Four Seasons featuring soloist Julianne Lee, violin, of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets are listed at $45 for members and Salem residents and $50 for nonmembers. Tickets can be purchased here.

A light reception will follow, according to the museum.

The event is presented through PEM Presents, which the museum says is made possible by The Joseph and Robert Cornell Memorial Foundation.

Vivaldi with Symphony by the Sea is supported by Galen Ho in honor of Patricia Ho.

Ho served on the boards of the Peabody Essex Museum, the American Association of University Women, Wellspring House in Gloucester, Voices Against Injustice, United Way of the North Shore and Healing Abuse Working for Change.

She also served as the board chair for the House of the Seven Gables, which dedicated its new Immigrant and Education Center in her memory in late 2024. In addition, she was the president and CEO of a family foundation, director of a teacher resource center and a gifted education specialist.

She was a lifelong music lover who enjoyed all kinds of classical music, musical theater, dance and ballet. Her CD collection ranged from classical composers to Neil Diamond and Eric Clapton. She attended a Symphony by the Sea concert more than 20 years ago in Abbott Hall in Marblehead and supported the orchestra for many years.
