Salem To Open Cooling Centers, 'Soak The Kids' Amid Dangerous Heat Wave

City buildings and a "soak the kids" fire event are available as Salem offers ways to cool down July 1 through July 3.

SALEM, MA — Salem is offering several ways for residents to cool down during this week's high-heat period, with special hours at cooling centers running from Wednesday through Friday.

The city said the Mayor Jean Levesque Community Life Center at 401 Bridge Street will be open to anyone who needs an air-conditioned place to cool down on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Friday, the center will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Salem Public Library at 370 Essex Street is also a cooling option. The library will be open Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Salem Fire Department is also planning to "soak the kids" events this week. Times and locations for those events were still to be determined as of Tuesday afternoon.

Open swim is available at the city swimming pool at Forest River Park.
