Salem Seeks 3 Residents For New Taxpayer Relief Committee

SALEM, MA — Salem is seeking three residents to serve on its newly formed Taxpayer Relief Committee, a new panel tied to the city's expanded property tax relief efforts.

The city announced that applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis for the three seats.

Mayor Dominick Pangallo in April filed a property tax relief package with the City Council to broaden Salem's current programs and continue work on affordability. The measure established a new Taxpayer Aid Fund to provide direct financial assistance to seniors and residents with disabilities for their property tax bills.

The Taxpayer Relief Committee will oversee that fund and distribute financial relief each year to qualifying residents, according to the city.

The committee's work is connected directly to how the new aid fund will function, with members overseeing the program created through the mayor's package.

The city said the fund is intended to help seniors and residents with disabilities with property tax costs.

Residents interested in serving are being asked to complete the city's board or commission application and return it, along with an up-to-date resume, to mayor@salem.com.

Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis. Applications received after the three seats have been filled will be retained by the Mayor's Office in the event of future vacancies on the committee.
