Salem-Area Residents Can Get $15 in Free Bluebikes Credit During August

SALEM, MA — Salem and other Metro Boston residents can get a complimentary $15 Bluebikes credit throughout August as part of National Wellness Month.

The offer is meant to encourage people to get outside, stay active and use biking as part of everyday wellness.

Beginning Monday, individuals can redeem the $15 credit by entering code BCBSMAWELLNESS in the "Rewards" section of the Bluebikes app, while supplies last. The credit can be used toward any combination of Bluebikes trips, either all at once or across multiple rides.

Once redeemed, the credit will be added to a rider's account and remain valid for 12 months from the time of redemption.

The offer can be used for classic bikes and ebikes across all 600 Bluebikes stations in 13 municipalities. Those communities are Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Newton, Revere, Salem, Somerville and Watertown.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, physical activity provides both immediate and long-term benefits for health. It can improve sleep quality, lessen anxiety, reduce blood pressure and also reduce the risk of disease.

Bluebikes includes more than 5,500 bikes and 600 stations across 13 municipalities, according to the announcement. Since becoming title sponsor in 2018, Blue Cross has supported expanded access to biking and active transportation through free rides, reduced-cost passes and community-based programming and has contributed to more than 25 million Bluebikes rides overall.

The free credit becomes available Aug. 3 in the Bluebikes app and will be offered while supplies last. Riders who redeem it in August will have up to 12 months to use the credit on eligible trips.
