SALEM, MA — An "Old School Halloween" is coming to the Witch City this spooky season with the Salem Chamber of Commerce announcing the theme and date for this year's Haunted Happenings Grand Parade kickoff event.
This year's parade will be held on Oct. 1 with those participating and visiting the city throughout the month encouraged to celebrate the "classic monsters, costumes and spooky traditions that make Halloween so much fun."
"As part of Salem 400+, we're also celebrating Salem's long history of Halloween traditions, from the ancient roots of Samhain to the spooky spectacle Salem is known for today," the Chamber of Commerce said.
Applications are open for those who want to be part of this year's parade as a marching entity or vendor.
The 29th annual Grand Parade is considered the official kickoff of the Haunted Happenings season that last year drew an estimated 1.2 million visitors to the city from late September through Halloween night.
