Salem To Host Annual Longest Table Community Meal

SALEM, MA — Salem residents are invited to a free community meal next month as the Salem Food Policy Council prepares to host its third annual Longest Table event.

The event is set for Sept. 12 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Salem Street behind the Sarah Parker Remond School.

The Longest Table is a community meal set up on a city street and intended to help raise awareness and encourage conversations about food access in the community.

The event will be catered by Root.

The menu includes barbecued chicken, cole slaw, cornbread and salad. Dessert will be donated by Gillian's Wheat & Gluten Free.

In addition to the meal, attendees will be able to take tours of the Salem YMCA's GreenSpace garden at Palmer Cove Park.

The garden tours are part of the event's focus on food access and community engagement, according to the information provided by organizers.

The Longest Table has become an annual event for the Salem Food Policy Council. By bringing residents together around a shared meal in a public space, the event is designed to create room for discussion about how food is accessed in Salem and what that means for the community.
