New Gelato, Coffee Shop Opens In Downtown Salem (patch.com) — Downtown Salem residents have a new spot for gelato, coffee, and sweets with the opening of Lil' Zitelle Gelato Bar on the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall. The shop, which took over the former Polonus Deli space, began serving customers Thursday and features candy, cookies, chocolates, and other treats alongside its frozen desserts.
   

2. Hall of Fame Lacrosse Coach Named New Salem High Athletic Director (patch.com) — Salem High School is welcoming veteran lacrosse coach and athletic administrator Michael Daly as its new athletic director on Sept. 17, succeeding Reilly Christie. With championship experience at Stonehill, UNH, and Merrimack, Daly plans to strengthen Salem High, Collins Middle, and NEC athletics while emphasizing character, connection, and student-centered programs for Salem athletes and families.
   

3. Salem Honors City's Oldest Living Resident On 104th Birthday (patch.com) — Salem residents are celebrating 104-year-old Mary Cardillo, the city's oldest living resident, whose life has been closely intertwined with the community for decades. From working at the GE Factory during World War II to greeting early Haunted Happenings visitors at the Salem Chamber of Commerce, she was honored with a mayoral proclamation recognizing her humor, compassion, and long record of giving back.
   

4. Salem, Beverly To Hold Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day (patch.com) — Salem and Beverly residents will soon have a convenient way to safely dispose of hazardous household materials at a joint collection day hosted at Salem High School. With a modest per-car fee and clear rules on what's accepted, the event offers Salem households a local option for getting rid of items like motor oil, pesticides, and old car batteries. Residents from other communities can participate during the final hour with special pricing.
   

5. Salem To Host Climate Conference Focused On Historic Buildings, Neighborhoods (patch.com) — Salem is hosting its sixth annual Preservation in a Changing Climate conference on Sept. 23 at the Peabody Essex Museum, focusing on protecting historic neighborhoods from flooding, heat, and other climate threats. Local partners like PEM, Salem State, and Historic Salem Inc. are involved, with tickets including sessions, lunch, and a reception at the Salem Armory Visitor Center.
