SALEM, MA — Plummer Youth Promise has appointed Sue Anamier O'Callaghan, Esq., an attorney and public policy expert, to its Board of Trustees as the Salem-based organization moves through the final phase of its capital campaign and begins work on its next strategic plan.
O'Callaghan brings more than 20 years of experience specializing in child welfare and human services. Plummer Youth Promise announced the appointment at a time when the nonprofit is balancing long-range planning with ongoing service work for youth and families.
O'Callaghan is also an adoptee whose professional and personal background aligns with Plummer Youth Promise's focus on youth well-being, permanency and family connections.
"As an adoptee who had a sister in and out of group homes, I know residential, intensive permanency, foster parent, and mediation programs face barriers at a critical juncture in the lives of youth and their families," said O'Callaghan. "With the right approaches and a strong workforce, Plummer Youth Promise holds true to its commitment to engage, empower, protect and lead as a trusted service provider and partner, ensuring the best possible support and outcomes for youth well-being and familial and community connections.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for this work and my skills as a Board member."
Nicole McLaughlin, chief executive officer of Plummer Youth Promise, said O'Callaghan's experience includes both advocacy and direct knowledge of the child welfare system.
"I had the privilege of working with Sue during her time with the Children's League of Massachusetts and witnessed firsthand her deep commitment to advocating for children, youth and families," said McLaughlin. "Sue brings an invaluable combination of public policy expertise, professional experience and personal perspective to our Board."
O'Callaghan has worked on coalition-building and public policy efforts at the state and federal levels. Her work has included advancing legislation, advocating for budget investments and partnering with government agencies to implement policy change.
Earlier this year, O'Callaghan founded Public Policy Advocacy Strategy and Training, LLC, a consulting firm that supports individuals with lived experience, students and organizations in legislative advocacy. She also serves on the board of the Massachusetts Network for Foster Care Alumni.
