PEABODY, MA — Peabody Public Schools and Chabad of Peabody are inviting residents to an Oct. 6 community event at Higgins Middle School featuring surviving hostage Omer Shemtov.
The program, titled "RESILIENCE," is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Higgins Auditorium.
Shemtov spent 505 days in Hamas terrorist captivity following the Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel and "had to dig deeply into his reservoir of faith and resilience to overcome incredible physical and emotional abuse."
Shemtov now lectures around the world, sharing his experience and the tools he used to survive his time in captivity.
Organizers described the evening as a community gathering centered on healing and solidarity regardless of religion or ethnicity.
"We invite the community to join us for this powerful evening of bonding and healing to unite against all forms of hate and bigotry," organizers said.
Tickets for the main event are priced at $18 per person with a venue capacity of 454.
Organizers are also offering a pre-reception option at 5 p.m. for a donation of $180 per person. The pre-reception will give attendees a chance to meet Shemtov before the main program and will include light drinks and refreshments.
Proceeds from the pre-reception will help cover event costs.
