SALEM, MA —Salem is offering a free 30-day Bluebikes membership to people who live or work in the city during the 2026 October Halloween season.

The membership is available immediately and includes unlimited 45-minute rides for up to 30 days. Passes are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The city said riders will be charged 10 cents per minute for each minute after the first 45 minutes. The same 10-cent-per-minute charge applies to e-bike rentals, if they are available.

A valid credit or debit card is required to activate the membership, and the program is limited to riders ages 16 and older.

"We're excited to partner with Bluebikes to again offer free October rides to Salem residents for the fifth year now, and to offer the program for a fourth year in a row to people who work in our community," Mayor Dominick Pangallo said. "I am grateful to city staff members who have worked to make this happen, and I encourage residents and workers to take advantage of this offer for another way to get around in Salem during the busy month of October."

Bluebikes first came to Salem in 2021 with funding from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Salem State University, and the MassDOT Shared Streets & Spaces program.

The system has since grown to 17 stations at destinations across Salem neighborhoods. The city said ridership has continued to increase each year since the program launched, as Bluebikes has served residents, workers, students, and visitors.

People who want a free 30-day code must email Transportation Planner Eric Gemperline at egemperline@salem.com. Salem residents should provide their name and address.

People who work in Salem should provide their name and the name and address of their employer or workplace for verification.

The city asked applicants to allow up to 24 hours during regular business hours for a response. Qualifying residents and employees will receive a code they can use at bluebikes.com or in the Bluebikes mobile app to claim the membership.
