Giovanni & Paula Graziani of Caffe Graziani in Salem, Ma., together with Olde Ipswich Tours, will escort their first tour to Italy on March 20, 2012.
It is an idea that has been growing at the Caffe for several years. Giovanni & Paula have travelled often to Italy to visit Giovanni’s family & friends in the small mountain village of Piglio, Province of Frosinone. Often upon their return to Caffe Graziani, their customers would comment that it would be fun to travel to Italy with Giovanni, as a native escort.

The group of 20 customers & friends will fly from Boston to Rome where they will explore the ancient city for 2 days. Next the group will travel by motor coach to Piglio, Giovanni’s hometown, approximately 30 miles south east of Rome in the hills of Frosinone. There they will browse the local food markets for local specialties to be used in a cooking lesson/demonstration with Chef Giovanni & a guest chef. They will spend a day at Cousin Vincenzo’s olive groves where they will learn the entire olive oil production process from tree to table. In Piglio & surrounding towns there will be an historical tour, which includes an Etruscan castle & a visit to monasteries dating back centuries. The tour wouldn’t be complete without a trip to a winery & the Piglio area boasts several. The group will board a tram for the “Strada del Cesanese di Piglio”. That is the “road of the Cesanese of Piglio. Cesanese wine is produced exclusively from grapes that grow in the region.
The final evening in Piglio includes a dinner at a typical local “Osteria. Mayor Cittadini with be our guest in honor of the first American tourist group to explore Piglio. In hopes of encouraging future cultural exchanges Mayor Driscoll will send a declaration of friendship to be delivered to Mayor and the citizens of Piglio.

The tour will wind its way south to Pompeii, Sorrento, the Isle of Capri and the Amalfi Coast. And then it’s “Arrivederci Roma”.
This is an exciting new business venture for the Graziani’s and they hope it will be the first of many.
