News at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem

 There are always lots of great activities and programs happening at The Club. Here’s an update about on a few of them:

 *The Creative Writing  continued working on their children's books and discovered what would make readers engaged in their story- Caitlyn Williams (Arts & Education Director)

 *Puppet Theatre: Kids will be auditioning for their parts for the first puppet theatre performance.

 * The Arts & Education Director took  both SMART girls and puppet theatre to the YCPP kick off that the Peabody Essex Museum is hosting. While we are there the kids  got to experience the "Hats" exhibit, they will be able to make their own hats, and talk to exhibit workers.

*Yoga: I will be taking the girls to the PEM to experience "Mandalas" we will use natural supplies (i.e. leaves, sticks, sand, stones) to create an art form that has been used for years as meditation.

*The children of the "Kid's Club" participated in the YCPP kick off event at the Peabody Essex Museum Thursday, while the Kindergarten children visited the PEM Friday, enjoying the Legacy of Change exhibit.  This week was the start of our programming for the Kids Club at both Hawthorne & Witchcraft sites.  Smart Girls for ages 5-7 years discussed nutrition and healthy eating, while the children in Ultimate Journey explored different types of soil and plant growth-Meghan Murtagh (Licensed After School Child Care Director)

*A giant Yard Salem to benefit the Boys & Girls Club will be held on Saturday, November 3, from 8am to 2pm. You may donate items to the Yard Sale, but please no clothes or shoes.

*The  Floor Hockey team  lost the  first game of the season to Nashua, NH, but had strong performances by goalie Billy Jackson and center Jalvin Pena.

 *This Saturday a group of 15 members are going to the Harvard Football Game vs Bucknell. 

 *A monthly parents meeting was held on Thursday evening

 *  Next week the Golf program with Ann Sullivan as well as the Music program with the Dejas (Local band) will be starting up

  * A Running Clinic will take place on Monday afternoon lead by Mike Toomey and his Endicott College running team.
