 Legend says that in 1740, George Whitefield preached with such fire at the North Congregational Church that the Devil himself burst out, climbed the steeple, and was cast down, leaving a single scorched hoofprint in the granite. 
The rock is still there. The story is still told. And every generation adds its own voice.
Join us for a day of music, history, folklore, and theater on Meetinghouse Green. Bring a chair, a blanket, or just a sense of wonder. Free and open to all.

Founded in 1655, Broad Street Cemetery has 70+ Revolutionary War veterans buried within its 2.69 acres, including Col. Timothy Pickering (1745-1829). Also buried there are 30+ veterans from other wars, including Civil War hero Brig. Gen. Frederick Lander (1821-1862). Over Memorial Day Weekend, flags with military biographies will mark veterans' graves. View the 1938 WPA Veterans' Graves map at the Pickering House Barn (18 Broad street) and pick up a handout there or at the cemetery across the street (5 Broad street). Welcome back to Glen Magna Farms Back to Nature Plant Sale. This year will have an array of perennials field dug from the historic gardens of Glen Magna Farms. We will also be offering many low maintenance, New England native plants to make your home sustainable all while helping our declining butterfly and bird populations.
We also invite you to stroll the enchanted 11 acres of garden rooms of Glen Magna Farms before or after you shop. Let the winding paths and majestic trees inspire you to make your corner of the earth a little greener. Lastly, the garden crew will be participating in “No Mow May” for the 6th year in a row. Be sure to explore the outskirts of the property and our heirloom apple orchard to see all the colorful wildflowers. It’s always fun to count how many songbirds you can spot building their nests in the “No Mow May” areas. We look forward to meeting you!

In 2026, as part of the Salem 400+ initiative, PEM will present "Salem as Muse," a series of talks that highlight works represented in PEM’s collection. These programs will explore a diverse range of subjects that connect to the unique history and character of Salem, Massachusetts.
Curator-at-Large Paula Richter will give a presentation centered on Lucy Cleveland: textile artist, children's book author, 19th-century reformer and abolitionist. Born in Salem in 1780, Cleveland traveled to China and Indonesia with her husband, a sea captain, and published more than a dozen books. One of her artworks is on display in Salem Stories.
About our presenter
Paula Richter Since 2009, Paula Richter has been responsible for curatorial research and support of the museum's changing exhibition program, related publications and core activities within the curatorial department. She has participated on exhibition teams for more than a dozen recent and upcoming exhibitions and numerous gallery installations and rotations, including The Salem Witch Trials 1692. She previously worked for the Cape Ann Historical Association, the Sargent House Museum and Landmark College. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Richter writes and lectures on American textiles and fashion and New England art and decorative arts. She also leads PEM’s partnership with Handwork 2026, presented by Craft in America.

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and reliable Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide hands-on care for a 67-year-old woman with advanced early-onset Alzheimer&rsquo;s. Nancy has a rare neurological form of dementia that has caused severe motor impairment and loss of verbal communication. She requires full support with all activities of daily living (ADLs). 
Open Shifts:
&middot;Tuesday: 4:00 PM &ndash; 7:00 PM
&middot;Saturday: 12:30 PM- 6:00 PM
&middot;Sunday: 8:00 AM PM &ndash; 1:00 PM 
(Hourly Pay: starts at $23.25/hr paid over the table based on qualifications and experience)
Location: Beverly, MA
Please note: These hours and rates are specific to the family's care needs and budget, and unfortunately cannot be changed. We kindly ask that only those who are available for the listed shifts and comfortable with the outlined pay apply.
Key Responsibilities:
&middot;Safely operate a sit-to-stand and Hoyer lift (training provided)
&middot;Assist with toileting and incontinence care (every 2 hours)
&middot;Administer medications as directed
&middot;Feed meals and snacks (spoon-fed; food is ground)
&middot;Assist with hydration (cup must be held)
&middot;Perform light housekeeping and meal prep
&middot;Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment
&middot;Communicate effectively and respectfully with other caregivers at shift changes
Qualifications:
&middot;Prior experience caring for individuals with Alzheimer&rsquo;s, dementia, or other serious neurological conditions
&middot;Ability to lift and move 50 lbs
&middot;Must be able to bend, kneel, and assist with physical care tasks
&middot;Dependable, compassionate, and proactive
&middot;Excellent communication and teamwork skills
&middot;Strong attention to cleanliness, safety, and detail
