Join us for a reading of the book Our Favorite Day by Joowon Oh.
Follow Papa as he goes about his favorite day of the week: Thursday, when he gets to eat dumplings, fly kites and go on other everyday adventures with his grandchild. Korean writer-illustrator Joowon Oh brings this family story to life through warm watercolor and cut-paper artwork.
After the reading, be sure to visit PEM’s Korean Art gallery.
Designed for children (5 and under) and their caregivers, PEM Pals aims to engage and excite all of the senses through books, movement, music, art and hands-on activities. Held on the first Friday of the month at 10:30 am.
About our collaborators Teresa Inés Coelho Teresa Inés Coelho has years of experience as a performing arts educator. She holds a Music Education Degree from the University of Rio de Janeiro, and is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. Her passion lies in igniting a love for music in children and their families through music and movement classes using the research-based (and fun!) curriculum Music Together.®
Dillian McGahey Dillian McGahey is an illustrator and arts educator, whose own work tackles the complexities of being human through the lens of silly little creatures. He's been teaching at PEM since 2020, after completing two internships in the Art &amp; Nature Center. &nbsp;Breath and Line pairs late Romantic chamber music for winds and strings with live visual art. From Amy Beach’s luminous flute Variations to the autumnal depth of Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet, from Elgar’s intimate Romance for bassoon to the radiant warmth of Florence Price’s Adoration, we trace how far a single melodic line can stretch, and how much feeling a single breath can hold.
Breath and Line continues our multi sensory, accessible series “Notes on Belonging”. As the music unfolds, visual artists respond in real time, tracing the contours and phrasing of the performance. The result is an immersive exploration of breath, movement, and line.

Charlestown-born Steve Sweeney is known as the "undisputed King of Boston comedy“, the embodiment of the city he calls home, a local guy who has become a nationally recognizable talent.
Sweeney is known not only as a headlining comedian, but also through his many memorable TV and movie appearances. During the early 1970s, a small group of Boston 'would-be' comedians performed regularly at a comedy club started by Martin Olson and Barry Crimmins in a back room of the Chinese restaurant, Ding-Ho, near Inman Square in Cambridge, MA. This group also included such unknowns as Lenny Clarke, Kevin Meaney, Jay Leno, Bobcat Goldthwait, Bill Sohonage, and Steven Wright. Steve stood out from the crowd by incorporating his great insight into the New England political scene into his act.
He was the first of the Boston super-stars to break into television, appearing on "Park Street Under," a Boston based sitcom that many believe was the inspiration for the highly successful television show "Cheers." He's also been on "Late Night with David Letterman," "Evening at The Improv" and "Comics Come Home." You might remember his small but hilarious parts in films such as Rodney Dangerfield's "Back to School," Judd Apatow's "Celtic Pride," and "There's Something About Mary" with Ben Stiller.

A branding and design specialist by trade, Jeff studied at Carnegie Mellon, worked in Boston and London for many years, and co-founded and ran Catapult Thinking from 2000 – 2015. 
Following a stroke during a triple by-pass in 2015, Jeff’s recovery process was long and difficult, bolstered by refocusing on the more artistic side of himself. He found his love of fine art again and has enjoyed honing his skills over the past six years. Despite having to relearn many things with his less dominant side, he now draws with his right hand and paints with his left. Jeff’s main challenge remains language retrieval (Aphasia).
