Cars Shot At In Salem Near Lafayette Street Parking Lot: Police

Salem police found "numerous shell casings" and two apparent bullet-damaged vehicles after a report of gunshots early Wednesday morning.

SALEM, MA — Salem police investigating a report of gunshots early Wednesday morning found apparent bullet holes in two vehicles and "numerous shell casings" inside and outside of a Lafayette Street parking lot.

Police said no one was believed injured from the shots fired near the lot at 135 Lafayette Street.

Police were called to the area of Salem and Dow streets with a report of gunshots about 1:15 a.m. Police inspected the damage and located the shell casings, but said they were able to find any suspects at the time.

Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division are "actively pursuing leads," but police said: "there is no information to indicate that there is an active threat to the community at large."
