City of Salem Joins in Awareness Campaign With YWCA North Shore Rape Crisis Center

Salem Joins in Sexual Assault Awareness Campaign with Proclamation Event 4/22/16

The City of Salem invites the community to take a stand against sexual assault at a Proclamation Event at Derby Square on April 22nd at 9:00 a.m. The City of Salem and Mayor Kim Driscoll’s office are joining with the YWCA North Shore Rape Crisis Center and Salem State University to host the event, one of many worldwide events during April to mark Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Mayor Driscoll will read an official proclamation declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness month in the City of Salem.

The goal of Sexual Assault Awareness Month is to raise public awareness of the fact that one in four women, and one in six men, worldwide will experience sexual violence in their lifetime. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Prevention is Possible.” At the Proclamation event, staff from the YWCA North Shore Rape Crisis Center will provide information on how individuals and communities can take action to prevent sexual assault. They will also provide information on services the YWCA provides to victims of sexual assault. The YWCA has the largest network of services and advocacy in the United States for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The YWCA North Shore Rape Crisis Center serves all of Essex County.

For more information on the April 27th event, contact the YWCA North Shore Rape Crisis Center at 781-477-2313. The YWCA NSRCC offers a 24 hour hotline, individual and group counseling, medical and legal advocacy, police station accompaniment, and outreach and educational workshops and programs.
