Caroline Emmerton: A Woman of Letters

Lecture by David Moffat

6 p.m.

As part of a year-long celebration of The Gables Settlement Association founder, Caroline Emmerton, the public is invited to take a very special tour of The Gables. This tour is the one Emmerton wrote herself. In a rare special offering, Emmerton’s tour will be available on the hour from 12 noon to 3 p.m. The tour is free for Salem residents and members, and $13 for the public.

At 6 p.m., David Moffat, lead interpreter and author of the exhibit companion, Caroline Emmerton: An Unbounded Vision, will present Caroline Emmerton: A Woman of Letters. This special lecture was inspired by Moffat’s research for the new exhibition and The Gables’ archival collection of Emmerton’s letters. A celebratory toast in honor of Emmerton’s life and legacy will follow Moffat’s presentation. Everyone is invited to stay for a book signing. The lecture and toast are free. Those interested may contact rconary@7gables.org or call 978-744-0991, ext. 104.
