SALEM THEATRE COMPANY OFFERS DEAD MAN’S CELL PHONE
Sarah Ruhl’s comedy on stage at STC March 10 – April 2
SALEM – An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet café. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man—with a lot of loose ends.
presents Sarah Ruhl’s offbeat satire Dead Man’s Cell Phone directed by STC Artistic Director John Fogle.
The production is being sponsored by and and will run from March 10 – April 2, Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. at the STC Theater, 90 Lafayette St. in downtown Salem.
The production will feature an original score by Salem-based Richard Lewis (Machine 475).
Called “a fresh and humorous look at the times we live in” by Variety and “vital” in its “lyrical and biting takes on how we behave” by the Washington Post, Ruhl’s play is satirical look at how we “connect” in today's wired world. It is the comic odyssey of a lonely woman who, looking for love in all the wrong spaces embarks on an adventure involving smuggling, international intrigue and time-travel… and triumphs!
STC Executive Director Gary LaParl said designers working on the show are coming from "really fantastic companies." He also lauded Lewis' original score for the show, which LaParl said is "unheard of."
Dead Man’s Cell Phone features Karin Anderson (Peabody), Grace Butler (Lexington), Dinah Cardin (Salem), Dave Rich (Marblehead), Katie Ventimiglia, (Topsfield), and Alan White (Malden). Emma Walker is the stage manager, with set design by Ruth Neeman, lighting design by Greg Mancusi-Ungaro assisted by James Wilkinson, costume design by Linda Ross Girard, and properties by Susan Fader.
