SALEM, MA - The deadline is fast approaching for commuter rail riders who want to give input on proposed MBTA commuter rail schedule changes.
The new commuter rail schedule is supposed to go into effect on May 23. The MBTA has set a deadline of Feb. 22 for those who want to give feedback about the proposed changes.

There are no proposed changes for the Middleboro/Lakeville, Greenbush, or Kingston/Plymouth lines.
Originally, commuter rail schedule changes were to take place over the winter, but there was an outcry from riders and legislators who were concerned about changes or reductions in service considering the issues the MBTA faced in the winter of 2015.

According to MBTA officials, the schedule changes proposed for May 23 are are designed to improve service by reducing the incidence of delays that affect subsequent departures and multiple lines, representing more accurately the actual travel time along each line, and allowing sufficient time to perform necessary maintenance between trips.
