SALEM, MA -- Salem residents got their first glimpse Monday of a plan to build 180 apartments and a restaurant at 355-373 Highland Avenue in Salem at a neighborhood meeting organized by Ward 2 City Councillor Lisa Peterson. The proposed development would be built on the lot that had been targeted for a controversial mixed-use development by CinewmaWorld. Last month city officials that the Cinemaworld project would not be moving forward.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Peterson said she would be having similar meeting in the coming weeks. The project is being proposed by Virginia-based Jefferson Apartment Group. The company described the plans as preliminary as it solicits feedback before filing its proposal with the city. The company describes itself as a privately-owned real estate developer and property manager that "focuses on urban and transit-oriented assets located in high barrier-to-entry markets on the East Coast."
