'Duchess Of Salem' Planning City Council Run

Salem LBGT activist Gigi Gill said she is collecting nomination paper signatures to get on the ballot in November's election.

SALEM, MA -- Gigi Gill, perhaps best known in Salem as a local LBGT activist, said Monday she plans to run for Salem City Council. Within a few hours of the post on Monday, Gill had more than 150 "likes" and comments from people offering to support her run for office.

"They need more people like you in office!!" one supporter wrote.

In 2012, after four years of grass roots campaigning, Gill was credited with getting Salem officials to approve the city's first Gay Pride Parade. More recently, she organized a giving drive for teens living at Plummer Youth Promise, a foster care facility for teen-aged boys in Salem.
