The Salem Garden Club invites you to their monthly meeting featuring guest speaker Peter Alden. He will be lecturing on the subject, "To Feed Or Not To Feed"
Millions of people attract birds and mammals to their yards by offering a variety of foods to wildlife. This gives great pleasure and entertainment to people and hooks many into caring about and for our wild neighbors. It has become a multi-million dollar business. Are there some concerns? Well, yes. Where is all this stuff grown and what invasive plant seeds are in the mix? Is it good to subsidize nest predators such as squirrels and blue jays? Are you attracting too many rodents? Are there diseases spreading at feeders? We love cardinals, but much seed goes to house sparrows that kill native bluebirds at nests. What other issues should we ponder?
Guest fee: $5.00
