With advances in research and technology, runners around the world are inundated with new choices of running sneakers every season. From elite runners to weekend warriors the perception is generally held that today’s sneakers provide more support, comfort and reduce injury prevalence while improving performance. However new research has led many scientists and physicians to begin to question that basic premise. Among those leading this new approach in thinking is Dr. Irene Davis, Director of the Spaulding National Running Center. Dr. Irene Davis will be giving a free lecture at the JCC in Marblehead on June 22, 2011 from 6 pm to 7 pm.
Dr. Davis has given nearly 300 lectures both nationally and internationally and authored nearly 100 publications on the topic of lower extremity mechanics during running. She has been featured on ABC World News Tonight, Good Morning America, Discovery, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Parade and Time Magazine.
