Which fishes live in Salem Harbor? See first-hand at a fish seining demonstration sponsored by Salem Sound Coastwatch (SSCW) on Saturday, August 24, 11 am at Forest River Park (98 West Ave.) in Salem.
At this demonstration, coastal biologists will drag a large seining net through the water and then lay it out on the beach where we'll examine the catch, talk about the what we found, and learn about the marine habitats and ecology of Salem Sound.
Seining is a centuries-old fishing technique which is used by marine scientists to gather information about species living in a body of water.
