In this course, students explore the art of humor. They learn the elements of being funny and touch on many points including presenting original material to different types of audiences, the importance of comedic timing, public presumptions, controlling a crowd, commanding attention, discovering their comedic voice and personality, and so much more through in-class exercises! After the first three hour session, students will have four weeks to take what they’ve learned and develop a 3-5 minute stand-up routine. In this period, they will be able to reach out to their instructors as a resource. In the second workshop, brief points about the business side of comedy will be touched upon, following a supportive workshop presenting the routines to the class with critique and tips from the instructors and fellow workshop participants. Students will present a showcase of their material to an audience. This class is perfect for anyone looking to get started in a future with stand-up comedy. This class is also perfect to help those who would like to improve their public speaking skills!
