Festivus 5K for Autism in Salem Raises $15,000 for Northshore Education Consortium

The Festivus 5K for Autism in Salem raised $15,000 for the Northshore Education Consortium.

More than 400 runners, and a few walkers (dogs included), braved the cold to run the fifth annual Festivus 5K for Autism through Salem on Sunday, December 11th, raising $15,000 for the Northshore Education Consortium. The race was hosted by Finz Seafood and Grill.

The Northshore Education Consortium, headquartered in Beverly, is the largest provider of special education programs for students with emotional, behavioral and developmental needs on the North Shore. Twenty local school districts, including Salem, are members of the Consortium.

Race proceeds will be used to purchase classroom technology for students with autism who attend the Northshore Academy upper school in Beverly and lower school in West Peabody.

“It was wonderful to see children, parents, friends, teachers and community members running together to support our students. Thanks to the many runners, sponsors, and volunteers who made this great day possible. The technology that we purchase will be life-changing for our students,” said Fran Rosenberg, Executive Director of the Northshore Education Consortium.

Since 2012, the five Festivus races have raised a total of $60,000 to help children with autism. This year’s race had 402 finishers. The overall male winner was Colton Gale of Beverly with a time of 16:00 minutes and the overall female winner was Kathryn Cooper of Marblehead with a time of 17:53.
