Fire The Hoses: Salem Kids Invited To Get Soaked Amid Extreme Heat

The Salem Fire Department will "soak the kids" at Forest River Park, Collins Cove and Salem Common Tuesday through Thursday this week.

SALEM, MA — Salem children and families in need of a quick cool down during yet another extreme heat wave this week can get soaked courtesy of the Salem Fire Department this week.

The fire department has scheduled several "Soak the Kids" events on Tuesday through Thursday as temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s with heat indexes exceeding 100 degrees ahead of the arrival of a late-week cold front.

On Tuesday, Salem fire will unleash the fire hoses at Forest River Park at 11 a.m. and Collins Cove Playground at 1:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, there will be soaking at Salem Common at 1:30 p.m.

On Thursday, there will be soakings at Forest River Park at 11 a.m. and at Collins Cove at 1 p.m.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities during daytime hours through Thursday. Children and pets should not be left in vehicles for any length of time, and residents are encouraged to check on family, friends and neighbors, especially the elderly.

Those needing assistance should contact public safety on the non-emergency line at 978-744-1212.

The Mayor Jean Levesque Community Life Center at 401 Bridge Street is open extended hours Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Forest River Pool is open from 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m.

All splash pads in the city are open this week.
