UPDATE: Essex Street Pedestrian Mall Project

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Tuesday, June 27, and here are the five things you need to know:

. You should want to be prepared for some more wet weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds and heavy winds. Tonight should be cloudy, with a low around 62. (sunrise, 5:08 a.m.; low tide, 8:52 a.m.; high tide, 3:15 p.m.; sunset, 8:25 p.m.)

. If you haven't noticed, the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall Project is full-steam ahead. A large section of cobblestones nearest to the Washington Street entrance were removed Tuesday and will soon be replaced with red bricks. Next on the checklist is reducing the footprint of the Town Pump Fountain. Salem Patch will keep you posted as progress continues!

. The Salem City Council will meet tonight at City Hall on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., is expected to feature a discussion regarding two newly proposed skateboarding ordinances, according to the posted agenda.
