Food allergies? Carry your EpiPen with you.

During the holiday season, food allergies are more likely to happen. Be smart. Travel with your EpiPen.

Symptoms of food allergies may vary from a mild rash to respiratory distress. If you have had difficulty breathing after eating nuts, strawberries, or seafood, you should ask your doctor to prescribe you an Epipen.

An EpiPen is an auto-injector containing a single dose of epinephrine. It will prevent or treat life-threatening allergic reactions. Since it is impossible always to predict when and where you might come in contact with food allergens, it is recommended that you own more than one EpiPen. Guarding an Epipen at work or school can be life-saving. It is also advisable that you carry one with you when traveling or dining out.

During these holiday times, you are most likely to eat out and to try unfamiliar dishes. These culinary excursions, even though enjoyable, may put you at higher risk for developing your food allergies.
