Free Salem Smoke 'Sound The Alarm' Program: American Red Cross
The Red Cross will be installing smoke alarms for those in need as part of the "Sound the Alarm" program on May 6.
SALEM, MA — Salem families in need can sign up for a free smoke alarm and installation courtesy of the American Red Cross as part of its "Sound the Alarm" safety program.
Residents can go here or call 1-800-564-1234 to check for eligibility. Those looking for an alarm must register before May 1 for the installation that will take place with the help of volunteers and local fire support in Salem on May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Red Cross said that working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death from house fires in half.

The Salem initiative is part of a program that will be installing the alarms in Boston, Leominster, New Bedford and Springfield from April 29 through May 15.
