FREE Winter Waterfowl Identification Session
Our Feathered Friends from the North Have Arrived!
Learn about the interesting birds that winter over in Salem Sound and view them up-close at this free session sponsored by Salem Sound Coastwatch on Saturday, December 5, 2015, 8:30 – 10:00 AM at Winter Island Park in Salem, MA. Experienced birders will set up their spotting scopes, identify the birds and answer questions.
Common eiders, playful buffleheads, red-breasted mergansers with their spiky crests, brant, common loons and other ducks and geese are some of the species that fly “south” from the arctic to spend the winter in Salem Sound. They are not passing through — this is their final destination!
Novices are welcome -- no birding experience is needed. Free and open to the public. Bring binoculars, if possible. Dress warmly. Meet at the water’s edge in the Winter Island parking lot. RSVP requested. info@salemsound.org or call 978-741-7900.
