A day of events commemorating the anniversary of the opening kicked off at 6:30 on Thursday morning with a flag raising ceremony on the roof of the hotel.
Named after Nathaniel Hawthorne, the Hawthorne Hotel was built in 1825 and came to completion after two years of construction and a push for funding by the Salem community.
The hotel was also recently the site of filming for a soon-to-be-released movie starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro.
