Help Raise Opiate Awareness with Sunday Walk

Local organization is planning a walk and rally from Salem Common to Palmer Cove Park.

A  local organization is hoping to raise awareness with a walk and rally for opiate awareness this Sunday, Nov. 22.

Talking Back Our Communities; The Fight Against Drugs is sponsoring the walk, which gets underway at 9:30 a.m. at Salem Common and than proceeds to Palmer Cove Park.

The short walk will be followed by a rally at Palmer Cove with speakers including Mayor Kim Driscoll, Senator Joan Lovely, Police Chief Mary Butler, and other who have been affected by opiate addiction and are working to overcome the epidemic, according to walk organizers.

There will also be organizations like Healthy Streets, Learn to Cope, and Lahey Behavioral Health with help and information to share.

Taking Back Our Communities is a fairly new organization with a mission of taking back the community from the drug dealers fueling the opiate epidemic and raising awareness about the opiate epidemic.

Organizers are asking that those taking part in the walk and rally wear something purple and also suggest bringing posters of words or pictures that participants want to share.
