High Heat Alert: Salem Bingo Moves Indoors, YMCA Pool Free For All

The North Shore YMCA of Salem's Sewall Street pool will be free to all residents throughout the weekend because of the intense heat.

SALEM, MA — Salem is shifting events throughout the weekend as intense heat continues to cause dangerous conditions across the North Shore.

The Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services Department is moving the Friday night Family Bingo indoors to the Community Life Center on Bridge Street.

"Join us for some Friday night fun in a nice cool building," Salem Recreation said.

Friday night's Bingo will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The North Shore YMCA of Salem is also opening its swimming pool free to all residents throughout the weekend. Hours can be found here.

The city pool at Forest River Park is free Friday and through the weekend for Salem residents only (proof of residency required). Pool capacity is limited.

Salem Fire Chief Alan Dionne also issued an order, effective immediately, on Thursday banning all outdoor fires at homes and on the beaches amid the high heat and severe drought conditions. Small charcoal fires can be used for cooking only and must be monitored at all times.
