J. Michael Ruane Judicial Center To Open Monday

Superior Court moves this weekend with District Court scheduled to open December 5.

will be open for all court business at the new J. Michael Ruane Judicial Center on Monday, Nov. 21 according to Dana Leavitt, spokesman for the Administrative Office of the Trial Court.

The official moving dates are Nov. 18-20, but workers have been moving records and other administrative materials for the last couple of weeks.

will move its operations to the new location during the weekend of Dec. 2, and will be open for business on Federal Street on Dec. 5.

The Juvenile Court and the Housing Court, which currently lease space at are expected to be in place before Christmas.

No plans have been announced yet for the Essex Probate and Family Court. The District Court site on Washington Street is being considered as a temporary location pending renovation at 36 Federal St. As of this date, no financing or plans for these renovations have been announced.

The new courthouse complex is named after J. Michael Ruane, a popular former city councilor and rtate representative. Ruane died in 2006.

On completion of the moves, both the Superior Court and the District Court buildings will enter into the Surplus Properties Program overseen by the Massachusetts Office of Administration and Finance.
