Lane Closures For Salem's Canal Street Coming Next Week
Crews will be milling and paving near the intersections of Canal Street/Mill Street/Washington Street and Canal Street/Loring Avenue.

SALEM, MA -- The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will close lanes and set up detours for sections of Canal Street in Salem beginning on the morning of Monday, July 30. Crews and contractors will conduct milling and paving operations in the areas of the Canal Street/Mill Street/Washington Street intersection and the Canal Street/Loring Avenue intersection.
The first phase of the work will start Monday and be between the hours of 6 am and 4 pm. That work is expected to last about a week. After the daytime milling work is completed, crews will begin overnight paving between 7 pm and 5 am.
Signs and police details will assist drivers navigating the detours. The work is part of an $11 million project to reconstruct Canal Street that is scheduled to be completed this summer.
