Last Chance to View Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit

Flying Horse Show to Close Sunday

The sixth annual Flying Horse Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit, which opened in early September on the Pingree School campus in South Hamilton, will close on Sunday, November 22. The public is invited to visit until then during daylight hours. Admission is free and a full-color catalogue is available in a white mailbox near the large sculpture of the human brain at the top of the main drive.

Pingree School is the only elementary or secondary school in the country to host an annual outdoor sculpture exhibit of professional work on its campus that is open to the public and part of its educational signature. The purpose of the display is both to provide a community event and to allow Pingree students to live with art in a way that a visit to a museum never allows. The exhibit has grown since its inception six years ago to include approximately 50 works by more than 39 regional artists, many of whom have exhibited in other venues such as the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Chesterwood, as well as in galleries and installations across the country.

“Public art changes the landscape and expands the mind and heart in ways that spur imagination, creativity and learning,” says Head of School Dr. Timothy Johnson, who holds a BA in Fine Art from Bowdoin College and an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, as well as an EdD in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. “This exhibit brings pleasure to viewers, but it goes far beyond that.”

Pingree is located at 537 Highland Street, South Hamilton, MA.
