Latest Winter Blast Cancels Salem After School Activities

SALEM, MA — The latest expected blast of winter precipitation caused the cancellation of after-school activities in Salem on Wednesday.

The district said late in the morning that all sports and other after-school extracurricular activities were canceled for the day. Salem Public Schools had already been scheduled for an early release day on Wednesday.

"This includes in-person meetings scheduled for after school time," the district said. "Check with your meeting host for virtual options."

This is the second time in three days that winter weather has wiped out games and other events.

As was the case on Monday when the North Shore received up to 6.5 inches of snow starting right about the time that schools got out, the trickiest travel conditions were expected to be late afternoon into the early evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the North Shore will receive about an inch of snow at the outset of the storm before the precipitation changes to heavy rain overnight.

The good news is that the rest of the week is expected to be clear sailing with conditions drying out early on Thursday and staying mostly rain- and snow-free through the end of the weekend with temperatures moderating into the 40s both Saturday and Sunday.
