Local Historian Highlights Harmony Grove Cemetery

Noted local historian Jim McAllister will be focusing on the rich history of the Harmony Grove Cemetery this Sunday.

Developed as part of the Rural Cemetery Movement in 1840, Harmony Grove is Salem’s most prestigious burial ground. This talk briefly traces its evolution over the past 175 years and profiles some of the cemetery’s most famous permanent residents, including George Peabody and John Bertram; diarist-minister William Bentley; game maker George S. Parker; abolitionist Charles Lenox Remond; and even the great Boston art collector, Maxim Karolik.
