Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll To Deliver Salem State Commencement Address

The former Salem mayor was elected as the Commonwealth's 73rd lieutenant governor in November.

SALEM, MA — Salem State will celebrate one of its alumnae as its commencement speaker next month when Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll delivers an address to the students receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Bertolon School of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Driscoll, who graduated from SSU in 1989, was Salem's mayor for five terms from 2006 to 2023 before she resigned from the post to be inaugurated as the state's 73rd lieutenant governor and part of the first all-women state executive leadership team in Massachusetts history with Gov. Maura Healey.

Driscoll will receive an honorary doctorate for her commitment to making positive change through public service.

"Lieutenant Governor Driscoll epitomizes Salem State’s commitment to civic engagement," Salem State President John Keenan said. "Her success as a public servant sets an example for all of us, and I know she will inspire this year's graduates to consider how they can make an impact in their communities and beyond."

The Salem State commencement is set for May 19 at 3 p.m. at the Rockett Arena in the O'Keefe Center on Canal Street.
