Lynn Man Arrested After Armed Robbery in Salem

The man allegedly struck the victim in the head with a pistol.

SALEM, MA—A 22-year-old Lynn man was arrested Saturday after an armed robbery on Grove St., Salem Police Capt. Conrad Prosniewski told Patch.

Prosniewski told Patch that Frank A. Celestino, 22, of Lynn was arrested after allegedly approaching a man with a pistol and demanding money. The victim told police that he had given the man $8, and was subsequently struck on his head with a pistol and left the scene.

Police responded to Grove St. at approximately 3:30 a.m. after receiving the report from the victim. Officers were able to catch up with Celestino's vehicle, which he was operating with a suspended license. Police tracked down the vehicle as it was attempting to pull into a driveway.

The gun was not found, but police later discovered Celestino to be in possession of heroin. Prosniewski told Patch that Celestino was positively identified by the victim, and gave a description of the gun.

Celestino was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, firearm-armed robbery, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, possession of heroin and possession with intent to distribute, subsequent offense.

There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.
