Man Steals Honga Takeout; BBs and a Slingshot at SSU

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department log.

The following is an excerpt from the Monday log. Calls included a complaint about school bus mobility as well as several break-ins and theft of Chinese food. Police also made several arrests.

  • At 9:53 a.m. Monday, police responded to Dow Street after police said there was an attempted break-in. Officials said the caller reported her apartment door was kicked in the night prior. The caller reported the door was wide open when she came home, but nothing was missing from the apartment.
  • At 11:33 a.m. Monday, police said the school department reported school buses were not able to pick up students for school that morning due to blocked roads in the vicinity of Ward, Dow and Palmer streets. Police said it was reported the incident occurs every morning.
  • At 11:44 a.m. Monday, police arrested Berta Mendez, 30, of 93 Hollingsworth St., in Lynn, on Highland Avenue on a charge of driving a motor vehicle without being licensed.
  • Police arrested Dean James Tavis, 57, of 56 Margin St., on a Salem trespass warrant after police said it was reported he was staring at a woman through the window of an Essex Street business at 12:41 p.m. Monday.
  • At 1:47 p.m. Monday, police received a call that a brick had been thrown through a basement window on Gifford Court. Police said the homeowner said she left home for approximately one hour and came back to find a basement window had been smashed. Police said the officer walked through the home and nothing was out of place.
  • Police and fire responded to Salt Wall Lane on a report of a stove fire at 3:06 p.m. Monday. Police said the fire had been extinguished by the time they arrived and there was no fire damage.
  • At 4:44 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the area of Loring Avenue near Swampscott to assist the Lynn and Swampscott police departments, which were in pursuit of a Lynn robbery suspect. Officers stopped a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle in question on Surrey Road. Police said they found $483 in cash on the suspect. Alexander J. Soledade, 30, of 11 Argyle St., in Everett, was charged with unarmed robbery.
  • Police responded to Rainbow Terrace at 5:28 p.m. Monday after it was reported kids were shooting BBs at . Police said when they arrived, they spoke with a Salem State officer, who said contact had been made with the party who "admitted to using an elastic to sling shot a large BB at Peabody Hall, breaking a window." Police said Salem State would handle the case.
  • At 5:56 p.m., police responded to Moulton Avenue after it was reported a resident was bitten by a dog. Police said the victim was treated for puncture wounds to the right hand at Beverly Hospital. Police said they would follow-up with the owner.
  • At 6:44 p.m. Monday, police responded to a larceny of Chinese food at on Boston Street. Police said the restaurant reported a male came into the store to pick up an order for $49.49. After he asked for an additional item int the back kitchen area, police said the male grabbed the order and fled.
  • Police said a woman attempted to use a stolen Visa debit credit card to purchase nine packs of cigarettes at at 6:57 p.m. Monday.
  • At 7:58 p.m., police responded to Barstow Street on a report of a stolen phone.
  • Police said a party came into the station at 9:03 p.m. Monday to report his car had been keyed on Crombie Street over the weekend.

Also on Monday:

  • Vincio Alguquerque, 39, of 138 North St., was arrested on a warrant and a charge of possession of a Class E substance with intent to distribute.
  • George Richard Morrisey, 20, of 3 Cross St. Ct., was arrested on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
  • Alicia Pacini, 19, of 134 Bridge St., was arrested on a warrant, violation of a protective order, breaking and entering during the day with intent to commit a crime as well as two counts of assault and battery.
  • Armando Garcia Jimenez, 33, of 55 Lighton St., in Lynn, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without being licensed.
