Mercy Baez, a fifth-grade teacher at Bentley Academy Innovation School, was recently awarded the 2023 MVHoward Teacher Recognition Award for Salem. Selected from nominations made by the community, Mercy was commended for her excellent teaching, her strong communication with families, and her exceptional contributions to school culture.
This year's Marblehead honoree is Tracy Maag, permanent substitute at Veterans Memorial Middle School. She was cited for her fourteen years of outstanding service to all the staff and students at her school and for the numerous ways she goes above and beyond.
Recipients are recognized as "representatives of all the excellent, dedicated teachers in the community who make a difference to children every day." Each one is presented with a certificate and $500. Other nominees are also congratulated that someone honored them with a nomination. The award is a fund of the Essex County Community Foundation.
