MIAA Tourney: Boys Hoops Gets 5th Seed, Draws Burlington

Boys basketball Witches will face Burlington at home in the first round of the MIAA Div. 2 North sectional.

The boys basketball Witches will square up against Burlington High School in the first round of the MIAA Div. 2 North sectional tournament in a game hosted at .

The game is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Tournament seeding, announced by the MIAA Friday, placed Salem (16-6) in the fifth seed in the bracket, for a draw against the 12th seed Burlington (12-8).

Salem Head Coach Tommy Doyle, who was named Coach of the Year in the Northeastern Conference this week, said he expects Burlington to be a tough foe out of the Middlesex League.

"They're definitely a solid team out of a solid conference," Doyle said.

Last year's Salem squad grabbed the sectional title and traveled to the state championships at the TD Garden, and this year's team will have the benefit of experience going into playoffs. 

The Witches will rely heavily on their three main scorers: senior guards (NEC co-MVP this year) and , all of whom were named league all stars.

"We have a home game and our spirits are good," Doyle said. "We're certainly hoping to get hot at the right time."
