New Salem Sports Tavern Hosts Grand Opening In Former Derby Location

The Neighborhood Tavern set plans to open for the NCAA championship game on Monday night.

SALEM, MA — Salem's newest sports bar was set to open Monday night just in time for the NCAA men's basketball championship game between UConn and Michigan.

The Neighborhood Tavern was to open in the former Washington Street location of the Derby Bar & Restaurant. A message on its social media page said it was to open at 5 p.m. on Monday and be open throughout the rest of the week.

Owners of the former Derby Bar & Restaurant said late last year that place would close by the end of 2025 after seven years.
