No Crime Cited After Heavy Salem Police Response Tuesday Afternoon

Salem police said the incident that forced the closure of Marlborough Road for hours late Tuesday afternoon is still under investigation.

SALEM, MA — Salem police said the heavy police presence that included the closure of Marlborough Road for hours on Tuesday was out of an "abundance of caution" while conducting a well-being check.

Police told Patch that they responded to the well-being check at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday and requested the Northeast Law Enforcement Council's assistance based on the history they had available to them.

Police wound up closing the road near Outlook Avenue and Scenic Avenue and advised people to avoid the area. Authorities dispersed and the road was reopened to traffic and residents at about 8 p.m.

"At this time, we have no evidence of a crime, but we are still investigating the entire incident," Salem police told Patch on Wednesday.
