North Shore CDC breaks ground in Salem
Join North Shore CDC on July 15th at 8:30am for Congress Street Residences groundbreaking event!

North Shore Community Development Coalition recently began an extensive renovation of their Congress Street Residences and will be hosting the development’s groundbreaking event on Friday, July 15th at 8:30 am at the courtyard of 52-60 Dow Street in Salem, MA. In addition to the 64 units of renovated affordable housing that are underway, the ribbon cutting also celebrates the creation of a program space in the neighborhood that had deteriorated beyond repair.
The renovation was an $25.9 million transaction of 8 buildings throughout Salem’s Point Neighborhood that included a major renovation and refinancing of the properties to ensure their long-term quality and affordability. The renovation, completed by NEI General Contracting and designed by Davis Square Architects, will include new kitchens and bathrooms, new roofs, all new windows, extensive masonry repairs, improved layouts, new energy-efficient mechanical systems, insulation improvements, energy and water-usage reduction features and new basement ceiling insulation. Historic restorations to the facades of the buildings were also completed.
Funds for the development were raised through the Department of Housing and Community Development, state and federal Historic Tax Credits, the City of Salem, LISC Boston, Raza Development Fund, Enterprise, PCI, CEDAC, and Eastern Bank.

These units will be renovated to meet Enterprise Green Communities standards and create deeply affordable housing for North Shore Residents. 16 units are reserved for households earning less than 30% of the area median income, with the balance of the apartments being available to households at 60% of the area median income. 7 of the units will also be reserved for formerly homeless households.
