Obituary: Buck Oakie Frye, 63, Former Salem Resident

He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a member of the C Company 23rd Engineers.

Buck Oakie Frye, 63, of Beverly, beloved husband of Gailann (Westphal) Frye of Beverly, a good soldier who died of agent orange, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at his home.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Norma (Wise) Frye and Oakey Fryeof Lynn. He was raised and educated in Lynn.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a member of the C Company 23rd Engineers.

A roofer by trade, Buck began his professional career with North Shore Roofing Company and had also worked for Tri-City Roofing Company. He then went into the Plastics Industry and was associated with Webster Plastics for ten years. He was also associated with Alfien Plastics of Peabody, Spirit Plastics and Hunt & Wildie Plastics of Tampa, Florida.

A longtime resident of Salem and Beverly, Buck was a motorcycle enthusiast. He loved to ride. He was a member of the Last Defiance Motor Cycle Club of Tampa. He was proud of his bike and had it custom built for him and his honey to ride on. His bike provided Buck with much pleasure over the years.

While a resident of Tampa, FL, he was a member of the American Legion of Zepher Hills. He was also a member of the DAV of Salem, and maintained and operated the “Old Salem Water Taxi” which was another one of Buck’s life accomplishments. He was an outgoing, man’s man who would do anything for those he cared for. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his loving wife Gailann (Westphal) Frye of Beverly, Buck is survived by his sons, Richard Watson of Salem and Shaun Watson of Salem, His father OakeyFrye, his siblings, Penny Sue Pendexter and her husband Arthur of Berwick, Maine, Lynn Ann Granesse and her husband Joseph of Lynn, Scott Alan Frye and his wife Robin of Lynn, Billie Jo Picone and her husband Anthony of West Newfield, Maine and Luke Amos Frye and his wife Melissa and his brother-in-law Glenn Westphal of New York, two sisters-in-law, Deborah L’Horty of Salem and Donna Marden of N.H. and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Rte. 62), Danvers, Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours Monday, Dec. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m.
